I’ve always ordered Korean fried chicken from Bonchon as delivery, but this was my very first time dining in—and honestly, it turned out to be everything I didn’t know I needed.
It was one of those times when one of my best friends and I had to meet up and catch up on life. Since she picked the last restaurant, it was my turn to choose this time. After countless meetups and trying new places together, we realized that Bonchon was something neither of us had experienced. So, Bonchon it was!
First Impressions
This Bonchon is located in a cute suburban area. Parking wasn’t the best. Thankfully there’s a parking garage just around the corner within walking distance, which made it easier.
The moment I walked in, I was surprised by how spacious and cozy it felt. Because it’s located on the corner of the block, I expected it to be small, but it turned out to be just the right size. They even had a small bar inside, which I thought was such a fun and clever touch.
Let’s Talk About the Food
Now… the food. I was very excited for this part.
The menu had a really nice balance—enough variety to choose from without feeling overwhelming. It wasn’t lacking options, but it also didn’t give that “everything sounds too good, I can’t decide” kind of stress. I liked that it offered more than just Korean fried chicken, with other Korean dishes mixed in.
Going in, my friend and I assumed the portions would be on the smaller side (as is sometimes the case with Asian meals). Since we both have bigger appetites than the average Asian woman, we decided to order generously—just in case.
My friend started with fried zucchini, followed by japchae and pork buns.

I went with the Korean steak tacos (you can choose chicken, steak, or pork), chicken katsu, and a side of radish.

Taste, Portions & Little Notes
And here’s the exciting part—I completely misjudged the portion sizes. When the food arrived, I was shocked. The portions were huge. No joke!
Not only were the portions generous, but everything was absolutely delicious. Each dish was flavorful and satisfying.
One thing I do want to point out—especially for my fellow rice lovers—is that not every main entrée comes with rice. For example, the japchae didn’t include rice, which makes sense since it can act as a substitute. But if you’re like my husband, who eats rice with everything, this is something to keep in mind. LOL.
Korean Fried Chicken at Bonchon
Aside from appetizers and entrées, Bonchon is well-known for their Korean fried chicken. While the flavor options are limited—
- Soy garlic
- Spicy
- Korean BBQ
- Half & half (soy garlic + spicy)
—all of them are delicious (in my opinion).
I loved them, but my husband found them a bit too sweet. What I really enjoyed, though, was the texture of the chicken. They were perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. That said, flavor preference is personal.
Final Thoughts
Overall, this experience was chef’s kiss.
The atmosphere was cozy, the service was on point, and the food was extremely satisfying. The only downside—if I had to pick one—is that the menu is a bit on the pricier side, especially for those on a budget. But honestly? It’s worth it.

If you’re looking for a chill place to enjoy Korean cuisine, or if you’re simply craving Korean fried chicken, I’d definitely recommend dining in at Bonchon.
